Phonological Capabilities Among College Freshmen Students

The study aimed to determine the level of phonological capabilities of College freshmen students officially enrolled at Jose Rizal Memorial State College, Main Campus, Dapitan City, SY 2008-2009. The study used a descriptive method with the aid of a self-made instrument in gathering the needed information and data. There were 274 respondents involved in the study. The study disclosed that the respondents had less segmental capabilities but were more capable in suprasegmentals. It was also known that there was a significant difference on the level of phonological capabilities of the respondents when analyzed as to age, course taken, family income, gender, place of origin, and type of school previously attended, but there was no significant difference in suprasegmentals except for course taken and type of school previously attended.
